Delicious, Cheap Vietnamese – Bahn’s Cuisine
It’s no surprise that my first memory of Joe revolves around food. New to the area back in 2004, I wandered into Bahn’s Cuisine on 9th St in Durham and found Joe enjoying his favorite, the vegetarian plate. In between mouthfuls of food he managed to talk, flirt, get my number, and even make a pitch for how great and cheap the food is. Six years later, I am married to Joe and Bahn’s remains one of our favorite restaurants, the perfect choice for our first restaurant review.
Enter Bahn’s, and get ready to be underwhelmed. A small stark room, barely fitting seven tables and fold out chairs. There are a few Asian style pictures on the wall, but you won’t notice them at all. Don’t pay attention to any of this, just make your way to the Specials board. If it is Wednesday or Saturday you are in luck, as they have their authentic Vietnamese menu featuring the vegetarian plate, their most popular dish and our favorite. After you order, quickly find a seat, because if it is lunch or dinner time Bahn’s can get quite full. Oh, and be prepared because they only take cash.
