Carrboro Raw- Your Neighborhood Juice Bar

I can’t tell you how many times I have walked by the Weaver Street Market and thought to myself, “I wish there was a juice bar around here.” Finally, my wish was granted when several months ago I noticed a cool, funky bus parked across the street from Weaver St. with a sign saying Carrboro Raw, smoothies, juices, green drinks.
Having a bus in the area dedicated to juice has special meaning for me. Although I have gained an appreciation for my husband’s decadent pallet, at heart, I am actually a naturalist when it comes to food. I used to live in Manhattan, and one of my favorite parts of living there was that I could pick up a juice on every street corner. I came to rely on my shots of wheat grass or vegetable juice in between dance classes and dates for a boost of energy.
Just a quick FYI on why it is great to juice, in case this is something new for you:

Juices are highly absorbable with large concentrations of antioxidants, enzymes and phytochemicals. Let me put this simply. Juicing is beauty from the inside out. It is good for your hair, skin and entire body. Trust me…

Thank you Nice Polido for bringing Carrboro Raw to our neighborhood. Originally from Brazil, Nice exudes warmth, positive energy, and health, exactly what you would expect from someone making your juice. Nice explained that she has always worked in food and healing, having attended The Natural Gourmet Cookery School as well as The Institute of Integrative Nutrition in NYC. Three years ago Nice relocated to this area looking for a new opportunity. She wanted a place to get a juice and noticed that there was none, so she decided to create one. Nice purchased an old bus from Craigslist, completely stripped it and reconstructed it. One year later, Voila! Carrboro now has a full service juice bus.

Nice’s goal is to give our community an opportunity to experience health in the fast food world. Can you imagine that? Instead of picking up the chips or cookies because you are on the go, how about the V7 green smoothie: tomato, cucumber, carrot, garlic, onion, celery, parsley with a pinch of pure Himalayan salt. We are talking major life style changes here!

The drink menu includes an extensive variety of freshly squeezed fruit or vegetable juices, smoothies using nut milks, super foods, and organic fruits, and green smoothies made from blending green, leafy veggies with fruits, herbs, spices and pure water. The green smoothies are categorized into Sweets and Savories. I tried the Popeye: spinach, blueberry and banana. Next time I hope to try one of the Super Smoothies which include some fruity options such as Berry Lucky: almond milk, watermelon, cucumber, raspberries, gogi berries and maca. There are numerous add-ons with everything ranging from bee pollen, flax seeds, cacao powder, garlic and chlorella. You can also order a shot of wheat grass or E3 live. I’ve been to so many juice bars all over NYC and Carrboro Raw is just as good, if not better, in my opinion.

So please take advantage of your neighborhood juice bar, Carrboro Raw. The price range is about $6.50 for a large, and it would cost about the same amount to purchase all those “good for you” organic ingredients. And, no mess to clean up!

So, next time you are around Weaver St., and are on the go, instead of picking up the coffee and pastry, how about picking up a juice? Your body will thank you for it. Trust me, that is what I am going to do.

Savor on,

Marney
