Birthday On My Mind

Author: Here’s the scoop… Originally, I was planning to post Joe’s dad’s cake recipe in honor of Joe’s birthday. FYI, Joe’s dad, Dr. Dan, is the cook in the family. He prepares most special occasion foods, Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc.. Sound familiar? It is not his profession, but his passion/knowledge of food and cooking are undeniable. Clearly, baby Joe was born with food lovin in his blood. We’ve got genetics + environment + an insatiable appetite, passion, energy, enthusiasm, and you end up with Joe, a food maniac!
Then it hit me… Marney, go to the source, Joe’s mom, Susie, and get Senior Foodie’s amazing cake recipe and let this be the dessert I prepare for Joe’s b-day. I have no idea what it is yet, but I know if this guy baked it, it’s got to be good… Two upsides to this. First, I don’t have to keep thinking about what to make. Second, and most important, there is not much more I can do to show I care about Joe than to learn about and honor his family’s traditions, and incorporate them into my own.
Ok, so Dr. Dan’s birthday cake it will be! Susie will be e-mailing me the recipe today. I am excited! This is going to be the first time I have ever tried to bake a birthday cake! Wish me luck… [ Read the full article ] »
