OnlyBurger
4:45 pm. Foodie needed to mail a package. On autopilot we rushed over to the post office on Shannon Rd. It was focus, hustle, move time, not time to notice the scenery. However, something happened that stopped us cold in our tracks…Ok, so, it’s only five minutes away, but I typically frequent the other post office, and rarely drive up this side of the street. But, let me just say “Wow! Hope Valley Square has been renovated and is now a goldmine of Durham foodie dream options- Rick’s Diner, Bull Street Gourmet, Pop’s Pizza, Tutti Frutti Yogurt, and, of course, one of our faves, as well as so many other Durhamites, OnlyBurger. I think I will be visiting this post office more often…
When driving by Sam’s Quick Shop on Erwin Road, the OnlyBurger Truck was always a pleasant surprise, a temptation we could never resist. Because Sam’s collection of beer has been quite “dangerous” for Joe, I typically would not risk getting gas there. Joe would have the excuse to “just browse the selection of beers while the tank fills up.” I know it would turn into trouble. Long story short, the smell of those burgers are the only thing that could provide protection from the beer. They are “the best burger in Durham,” as voted by the Independent. And their slogan states, “the only burger you’ll ever want.” Yup, let me affirm that as true.
Anyway, Joe and I are thrilled to have an Only Burger “cemented” to the ground in our neighborhood. We know that any time we visit Hope Valley Square it will always be there. FYI, store hours are 7 days a week, 11:00am – 9:00pm (8:00pm, Sunday).
Menu: Single burgers are $4.75 and doubles are $7.25. Comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, pickles and mustard. Hey herbivores, they’ve got veggie burgers too… as well as fries, $1.75, chips, $1.50, bacon, $1.25, and cheese, .50. And for those of you with a taste pallet similar to Joe’s, OnlyBurger has daily specials such as The Breakfast Burger- burger with fried green tomato, egg and pimento cheese. Yup, dank.
Lastly, I happened to be on the phone with my mom and mentioned that I was going to pick up burgers for dinner. She responded, “You’d be better off purchasing the meat at Whole Foods and making them yourself. Their meat is hormone and antibiotic free.” So Readers with that concern, and mom, OnlyBurger’s meat is hormone and antibiotic free. And mom, when you visit, I will buy you a burger… Trust me, you’ll love it!
Sorry, Foodie. I couldn’t help myself! The classic Joe’s Big bite shot!
