A Journey Home

2001. While wandering through the cold, crowded NYC streets I remember thinking, “I have never felt more alone.” However, it was not just a thought, it was a feeling… that harrowing sense of sadness that occurs when one comes to the realization that they are surrounded by a sea of strangers.
2004. Having just relocated to Durham, NC, I spent my first night on a futon in the dance studio manager’s office/nursery. I remember thinking, “What in the world am I doing?” I felt scared, uncertain and unsure. I felt alone. I missed home.

But there was no home. Was there? Was home my old bedroom in my parents’ house blanketed by year’s past dusty memorabilia? Or was home that messy, cramped NYC apartment I shared with a roommate I couldn’t stand? [ Read the full article ] »

Fiesta Grill Mexican Restaurant

When Joe and I travel our motto is always, “Take us where the locals eat!” Although this afternoon’s trip to Fiesta Grill Mexican Restaurant was practically in our backyard, Chapel Hill, NC, it definitely had that feel.

Voted the Independent’s “Best Mexican Restaurant in the Triangle for the third year in a row,” Fiesta Grill likely is “where the locals eat.” Duh. However, what I was referring to is that indescribable magic that occurs when stepping foot into a restaurant totally transports you into the essence and heart of a culture. Yup, Fiesta Grill’s got character and authenticity.

Pull off the charming, country road and into Fiesta Grill’s gravel lot. Walk inside and you may notice that the two small rooms are filled to the max. No need to worry, the wait goes by quickly.
