Lose Yourself II
First off though. Why take the test again? He got in… right? Right. Well, in true “Lose Yourself” fashion, you don’t just take a test once, brush your hands off, straighten your collar, and call it a day. You take it one, two, 3, 4, 5 times. You take it until your fingers bleed, and there is no lead left in your pencils. Wait a second… Stop. I was being over-dramatic. Seriously, Foodie, I am glad you got in, and admire your tenacity in taking the test twice. However, two times is plenty. Let’s stop at that. You have already deemed yourself worthy of Lose Yourself II. Anyway, I am sure you will have plenty of opportunities during your next three years in law school to continue to do so… [ Read the full article ] »
Lose Yourself, Take Two
Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti
He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs,
but he keeps on forgettin what he wrote down,
the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won’t come out
He’s choking how, everybody’s joking now
The clock’s run out, time’s up over, bloah!
Snap back to reality, Oh there goes gravity
Oh, there goes Rabbit, he choked
He’s so mad, but he won’t give up that
Easy, no
He won’t have it , he knows his whole back’s to these ropes
It don’t matter, he’s dope
He knows that, but he’s broke
He’s so stagnant that he knows
When he goes back to his mobile home, that’s when it’s
Back to the lab again yo
This whole rhapsody
He better go capture this moment and hope it don’t pass him [ Read the full article ] »
A Journey Home
But there was no home. Was there? Was home my old bedroom in my parents’ house blanketed by year’s past dusty memorabilia? Or was home that messy, cramped NYC apartment I shared with a roommate I couldn’t stand? [ Read the full article ] »
Fiesta Grill Mexican Restaurant
When Joe and I travel our motto is always, “Take us where the locals eat!” Although this afternoon’s trip to Fiesta Grill Mexican Restaurant was practically in our backyard, Chapel Hill, NC, it definitely had that feel.Voted the Independent’s “Best Mexican Restaurant in the Triangle for the third year in a row,” Fiesta Grill likely is “where the locals eat.” Duh. However, what I was referring to is that indescribable magic that occurs when stepping foot into a restaurant totally transports you into the essence and heart of a culture. Yup, Fiesta Grill’s got character and authenticity.
Pull off the charming, country road and into Fiesta Grill’s gravel lot. Walk inside and you may notice that the two small rooms are filled to the max. No need to worry, the wait goes by quickly. The owner will smile and greet you. Take in the atmosphere, the smells, or chat it up with customers. [ Read the full article ] »
Accepted
Hey, I’ll be the first to admit it. At age fourteen, when I found out I was cast as the lead in The Little Match Girl, of course I was thrilled to have the chance to fulfill my performance dreams. However, I am sure my reaction was not without, “Wow… They picked me! Out of everyone who auditioned… they picked me!”
Whether you were picked for the sports team, hired for the job, admitted into the program, or chosen to be the lead in a show, what you now have is an opportunity. [ Read the full article ] »
“Getting Our Garden On”
OnlyBurger
4:45 pm. Foodie needed to mail a package. On autopilot we rushed over to the post office on Shannon Rd. It was focus, hustle, move time, not time to notice the scenery. However, something happened that stopped us cold in our tracks…Ok, so, it’s only five minutes away, but I typically frequent the other post office, and rarely drive up this side of the street. But, let me just say “Wow! Hope Valley Square has been renovated and is now a goldmine of Durham foodie dream options- Rick’s Diner, Bull Street Gourmet, Pop’s Pizza, Tutti Frutti Yogurt, and, of course, one of our faves, as well as so many other Durhamites, OnlyBurger. I think I will be visiting this post office more often… [ Read the full article ] »
Turkey Meatloaf
The other day while flipping through channels, I stumbled upon The Food Network’s Ina Garten preparing Turkey Meatloaf. Well, let me start off by saying, “Wow!… Everything this woman cooks looks so darn tasty! You know you can’t go wrong.” It had been a little while since Joe and I had eaten a meaty/comfort food dish, so one minute into the show I was hooked, and after three, reeled in…Take Time to Smell the Flowers
Hmm… Hummus
For “his,” of course it was a bit more dank. Think sneaking spinach into your child’s spaghetti… I melted Swiss cheese on both sides of bread, topped with a guacamole spread Joe prepared the other night, and added my healthy hummus and sliced red pepper. [ Read the full article ] »
